Your Roadmap to Having a Baby in the Netherlands

Local doulas Mari Gordon & Ilena Standring present a mini guide to pregnancy, birth and beyond in the Netherlands.

We will address the myths and urban legends about home birth, pain medication, kraam-what-doyamicallits (kraamzorg!), midwives, birth hotels, hospitals with power showers and with/without pools, how many days you have to choose a name for your baby.....and so much more!

Do you know the difference between "1st and 2nd line care"?
Do you worry about the availability of an epidural?
Are you concerned that nobody has seen your cervix yet?
All these questions will be addressed and much more to boot.

*** Who is this presentation for? ***
Every woman, man, partner, or spouse who might be considering having a baby in the Netherlands; those who are already pregnant, but want to know more about what to expect when you're expecting in NL; and 2nd or 3rd time round parents who are perhaps new to the world of pregnancy, birth and babies in the NL. Even if you're in the last weeks of your third trimester, we hope there will be something interesting and informative here for you!

*** What will you get out of your attendance? ***
- a concise overview of how Dutch maternity healthcare is structured
- a clear understanding of the difference between midwifery and clinical maternal healthcare
- where you might find other/extra support you might require
- your options with regards to birth locations in and around Amsterdam
- your options for labour support and pain relief
- a full understanding of how doula support can benefit your pregnancy, birth, and the early days of parenting here in NL as an expat

+++ As a bonus you will receive an e-book directory of maternity healthcare practitioners, birth and body workers in Amsterdam. +++

*** Who is presenting? ***
Birth doulas Ilena Standring and Mari Gordon are friends and colleagues who work together in educating and supporting locals, expats, and those new to the Netherlands, to navigate the Dutch maternal healthcare system. They are active members of the Amsterdam birth worker community, and are proud proponents of birth education and normalization of birth. Their goal is supporting and empowering women and families towards confident and positive experiences of pregnancy, birth and early parenting.
